The angel blood was intriguing, adding mystery to their characters. Intense, exciting and suspenseful story where the Dark and Light forces where confronted. Liked the strong detailed descriptions and narrations that allowed me to follow the action, the battles and the protagonists’ emotions. This is a standalone book with a satisfying outcome but I’m eager to get the second book and continue the adventure. Love these stories that keep me on edge. badlly written very flat but fun
I felt the need to write this beacuse of the 5 star reviews that is unearned. The book need fleshed out descriptions, character depth and backstory to earn a 3 star from me. There is a glimmer of something that might be a interesting backstory, but dosen't really scratch the surface. The perspective shifts isn't helping the story either. There are other books worth your time.
My disappointment with this book is so great I'm actually struggling to put it into words.
I'll try to break it down into point form
1. The story is very shallow. There's not much build up of any form - things just happen from one minute to the next and there rarely is and well thought out reasoning behind it.
2. The characters are poorly developed. Some other reviewers liked the main protagonist because "she is kick ass"..I'm all for a strong female lead but here the character was so unrealistic (yes I know this is a fantasy book) it was downright boring. Her "killer" turned protector needs to be constantly saved by her which is amusing considering he's supposedly survived hundreds of years just fine on his skill and cunning alone - while she develops skills and immunities to anything that could cause her pause at any point in time.
It almost feels like whenever the writer came across a difficulty or challenge that required some deep thought she instead chose the easy path of "bam" more superpowers!
This book should probably fall more under the category of romance with a pinch of fantasy vs fantasy with a pinch of romance.
If someone is looking for a solid kick ass heroine in the fantasy setting try the Kate Daniels series.
The idea behind the story was interesting, but the content was a bit juvenile. The constantly shifting emotions displayed by both of the main characters was tiresome at best and annoying at worst. It was entirely too erratic and made immersing yourself in the story difficult to do. Smoother transitions between their inner struggles would have made the story much more fluid and enjoyable to read. Additional details and background information on their abilities and the history of the race would have provided a stronger base for their love story (and its inherent conflicts) as well. An excellent idea, but needs some refining!
Once again J. E. Taylor has produced a book that is a must read. I totally loved this story! Ms. Taylor has created a story that is easy to get involved in; this book literally has it all... vampires, demons, shape shifting, angels, and romance that warms the heart. On occasion I found myself reading faster because the action had me on the edge and I needed to find out what was going to happen! Taylor's characters are so believable that I expect to see them on the street, or shopping at the mall, well, some of them... probably not the demons.
I highly recommend this book, if you like this genre in general, you're going to love this book specifically.
Loved it! Tons of action but it wasn't at warp speed, which I appreciated. I loved the couple and how their relationship grew.
I liked the concept of Michael vs lucifer and the mix of vampires in between. It ended pretty abruptly and I hope there will be a sequel. Cool that these vampires had extra special powers. Fun read.
